Ecological Restoration Team Member (Fixed Term)

Wildlands has a fixed term opportunity for an Ecological Restoration Field Team Member until the end of February 2025. The role is full-time (Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week) based in Rotorua.

Ecological Restoration team members undertake ecological restoration work which includes pest plant control, planting, and pest animal control.

It is essential for this fixed term role that you have a willingness to contribute and work in a team, are physically fit, and have a passion for working outdoors in all sorts of weather. The work involves the use of agrichemicals (herbicides), animal toxins (poisons), and traps on a regular basis. Some work may involve staying away in remote areas in basic accommodation.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

A positive attitude

A genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving conservation goals

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Good decision making and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and within a team

A good work ethic, efficient and H&S conscious

A good level of fitness

Full NZ drivers' licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)

On the job training and mentoring will be provided, including:

Agrichemical handling (mixing and application)

Pest plant control methods

Plant identification

Planting

Hand held GPS use

Use and maintenance of hand tools

Additional formal training will be provided as appropriate, and may include:

Growsafe

Controlled substance licence

Chainsaw

4WD

LUV/Quad bike

This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Wildlands policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
