Are you passionate about environmental conservation and restoration? Do you love getting your hands dirty and making a tangible difference in the natural environment?We are looking for a passionate ecological restoration practitioner to join our team on the Kapiti coast for the winter restoration planting season.Who are we?Kawakawa Environmental is an ecological restoration specialist based on the Kapiti coast. We are passionate about our work and endeavour to restore and create self-sustaining, resilient native ecosystems using professional and innovative ecological restoration techniques.What do we do?We provide various ecological restoration services, from restoration planting, biodiversity monitoring, and invasive weed control to ecological planning and assessments. We focus our efforts close to home and complete restoration projects for clients throughout the greater Wellington and Manawatu regions.About the roleFrom regional parks and farms to coastlines, you will be out and about working in beautiful areas undertaking vital work to conserve and restore our precious regions. This 5-month fixed-term role between June and October will focus on native restoration planting throughout winter and spring in various areas around the Wellington region. Native restoration planting involves site preparation (spot spraying and invasive weed removal), the delivery of plants, setting out plants and planting. You will be working in a team environment, and the successful completion of projects will require liaising and reporting to other team members, various clients and contract managers. Your work will be rewarding, knowing you are contributing to the restoration and conservation of special ecosystems in our region. However, delivering hands-on ecological restoration services can be challenging at times. It will require you to be physically fit and not afraid of getting your hands dirty and working in Wellington's wild weather to achieve the day's work.Responsibilities:Plant native trees, shrubs, and plants in designated restoration sites.Follow planting plans and techniques provided by project leaders.Assist with site preparation and maintenance tasks as needed.Work collaboratively with team members to achieve project goals efficiently.Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations at all times.What were looking forWe are looking for someone who is passionate about Aotearoa's natural environment and wants to contribute to the conservation of our special ecosystems and species.Ideally, you will have qualifications or experience in some of the following areas; however, we are open to anyone passionate about ecological restoration who wants to make a difference.Experience completing hands-on restoration projects such as restoration planting, invasive weed control, pest control or biodiversity monitoring.Experience and qualifications in using offroad vehicles (LUV, 4X4)The handling and use of agrichemicalsA full New Zealand driver's licence.Requirements:Strong work ethic and reliability.Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments.Interest in environmental conservation and restoration principles.Willingness to learn and follow instructions effectively.Experience in planting or landscaping is preferred but not required.Why should you join us?By joining our team, you join a group of like-minded people passionate about conserving and restoring Aotearoa.
