About the CentreA kaupapa Maori early learning centre established in 2007.Licensed for 50 tamariki, focusing on pepi (babies) and nohinohi (toddlers).Committed to teaching through Maori worldviews, emphasizing te reo Maori me nga tikanga.A partnership initiative between Ngati Whatua Orakei and the Ministry of Education. Role Overview:The Kaiako Whai Rehitanga (Early Childhood Teacher) will deliver quality education through te reo Maori, nurturing tamariki and fostering their growth in a culturally enriching environment.
The role is suited for individuals passionate about early childhood education and committed to preserving and teaching Ngati Whatua values, stories, and traditions.

Key Responsibilities:Plan and deliver high-quality learning experiences for tamariki aged 0-5.Promote and integrate te reo Maori and Ngati Whatua tikanga into daily teaching practices.Build strong, collaborative relationships with tamariki, whanau, and the wider community.Support the holistic development of tamariki, emphasizing manaakitanga and whanau-focused outcomes.Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance cultural understanding and teaching skills. Essential Qualifications & Experience:Registered teacher (Kaiako Whai Rehitanga) with a current practicing certificate.Experience in early childhood education is preferred.Proficiency in te reo Maori or a strong willingness to learn and grow in fluency.Understanding of Ngati Whatua whakapapa, hitoria, and korero tuku iho (or a commitment to developing this knowledge).
