Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Doctoral Candidate Advisor role provides an opportunity to use your sound judgement, relationship-building and communication skills as you work effectively to provide advisory services such as policy, process and programme advice to both students and staff.

Reporting to the Doctoral Candidate Manager, you will be responsible for delegated decision-making within complex doctoral degree regulations, policies and processes.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Provide expert, consistent advice to candidates, supervisors, academic heads and senior stakeholders on complex and extensive policies, procedures and guidelines relating to doctoral candidature.

Case management and resolving problems concerning highly individualised doctoral scenarios, most of which involve multiple stakeholders.

Make programme decisions for the University-wide doctoral programme based on individual assessment in the highly-individualised doctoral environment.

Ensure doctoral candidates are successful through proactive identification of risks and appropriate intervention.

Present at workshops and hold one-on-one meetings with doctoral candidates and faculty/LSRI members involved in candidate management.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week role on a permanent contract. The salary range for this role is $68,600 - $84,700 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Our ideal applicant will have:

A postgraduate research qualification with 5+ years' relevant work experience in a large complex organisation, preferably in the tertiary sector.

A demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to make decisions in a complex regulatory environment.

An understanding of the doctoral lifecycle and research candidate sector.

Excellent relationship and communication skills, with the ability to advise and work effectively with various stakeholders, including senior academic staff.
