About The Role Based in Ashburton, and reporting to the Group Manager: Compliance and Development, the District Planning Manager leads the district's planning activity in accordance with the RMA and associated legislation as well as the Council's Land Information function. The Council's size, and the district's prosperous economy, provide excellent opportunities for an aspiring professional. From involvement at the genesis of a project to overseeing full completion, the Manager works across the Council and alongside a broad range of external parties, to support the delivery of significant public and private projects in the District. The Manager leads a small but dedicated and supportive team of four planners, an administration officer and a LIM officer. The role has become vacant due to an internal promotion. Skills And Experience As the ideal candidate, you will be pragmatic in your approach knowing when to apply your regulatory and policy skills and adapting your style to suit the situation. Highly networked, and putting relationships first, you will be quick to build trusted partnerships with others through your actions and you will understand how other parts of the Council and external parties will be affected by decisions. Able to grasp concepts quickly, you will be comfortable analysing and dealing with complex situations, identifying information gaps and knowing where to get accurate information. A proven effective leader of others, you will continue to support and encourage your team developing their capability. In Addition, You Will Have a Bachelor of Environmental Management or other industry relevant degree Have at least seven years' relevant planning experience in either, local government or private practice. Be eligible for membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute. Be experienced in using industry specific software applications, such as GIS. Benefits There are a range of benefits including if commuting over 100 kms a day (round trip) staff are entitled to a $2,500 tax free travel allowance.
