As part of our team, you'll have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact while working alongside dedicated professionals in tourism and conservation.The Opportunity:We're seeking a seasoned Environmental Manager with a blend of leadership experience and scientific knowledge to drive our sustainability and conservation efforts. In this key role, you'll work closely with the General Manager and senior leaders to champion and action environmental and sustainability initiatives across Discover Waitomo, with a strong focus on protecting the cave and karst ecosystems.Key Responsibilities:Environmental Management: Ensure compliance with the Cave Management Plan, lead environmental reporting, and maintain close partnerships with agencies such as DOC and local councils.Sustainability Initiatives: Advance Discover Waitomo's sustainability initiatives, driving environmental excellence and accountability.Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small team, facilitating training and community outreach, including environmental education programs.Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Discover Waitomo at the Environmental Advisory Group (EAG), presenting and acting on improvement recommendations.Project Leadership: Lead capital improvement projects and manage partnerships, such as pest control with DOC.Reporting & Analysis: Prepare detailed reports with data analysis on environmental health, providing clear insights and innovative solutions for cave management.What You'll Bring:Education & Experience: Tertiary qualification in environmental science or related field and 5+ years of leadership experience. Experience in tourism or a complex operational environment is a plus.Skills: Strong data analysis and financial management skills, with proven experience in strategic planning and problem-solving.Interpersonal Abilities: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work within Te Ao Maori principles.Tech-Savvy: High computer literacy and experience with environmental monitoring technology.Passion for Conservation: A commitment to safeguarding New Zealand's natural wonders and fostering community partnerships.Why Join Us?Be a part of a collaborative and values-driven team that's making a tangible difference.
