Director of Academic Support page is loaded Director of Academic Support Apply locations Oakland Campus time type Full time posted on Posted 8 Days Ago job requisition id JR100628 Description:Job Description Summary:The Director of Academic Support designs, administers, monitors, and evaluates the programs, functions, services, and activities of academic support on all campuses, including policies and procedures. Designs delivers and modifies programs, services, and operating systems in accordance with University objectives, best practices, and student needs; tracks and monitors participation with various services and partners with faculty on intervention strategies. Supervises the academic support coordinator(s) on all campuses.Duties and Responsibilities: Job Duties and Accountabilities: (50%) Department Leadership and Management Analyze current trends and research on how to support student learning in higher education, particularly for students in the health professions.Ensure the Department's mission, role, function, and practices are consistent with general and specialized accreditation and with national and state higher education policies and laws.Evaluate the outcomes of the Department's functions relative to its mission, particularly for student success, analyze the results of that evaluation, and use the data along with other data and information to improve outcomes and services.Gather data on utilization of and satisfaction with Department services, analyze that data, and apply it when developing solutions to improve the quality of services.Collaborate with Academic Affairs on managing and driving the utilization of the University's early alert programs.Gather data on effectiveness of academic intervention programs for students referred to the department via referrals and/or early alert systems.Collaborate with key stakeholders on campus to obtain grants for programs that promote student learning and student success.Ensure the Department has the necessary resources to successfully meet its mission and purpose, including responsibility for the operating and capital budgets for the Department and sufficient staff with the required expertise.Provide learning opportunities for the entire campus community to promote improved student learning and success.Regularly confer with key faculty and staff in the Academic Division to plan, coordinate and evaluate projects, activities, and policies, and to facilitate the exchange of information.Recruit and institute contracts or other agreements for outside vendors (speakers, consultants) that provide intermittent, specialized services for the Department.Recruit, hire, supervise, and manage all Department employees and student employees, including managing the Department's federal work-study budget.Manage and enforce policies for student tutors to meet department expectations, and any comply with applicable federal/state regulations for student employees.Represent the Department and Division on University committees, task forces or ad hoc groups. (50%) Academic Support Services Develop, implement, and monitor programs, services, and resources that promote, improve, and enhance student learning for the University which: Addresses all forms of learning, e.g. 1:1, group, online. Addresses learning related to institutional, program, and course learning outcomes. Addresses the underlying knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are directly or indirectly related to student success, e.g. critical thinking, study and test-taking strategies, time management, stress management, mindfulness and self-care strategies, resilience, and persistence. Develop and manage intervention programs for students identified referred to academic support by campus partners and early alert programs.Develop, manage, implement, and evaluate programs, services, and resources that provide a comprehensive student writing support program necessary for student and graduate success.Design, plan, implement, advertise, and evaluate a systematic, coordinated, series of workshops, seminars, programs, and resources that enhance learning and personal development in support of the University's mission and vision and student achievement of the institutional and programmatic learning outcomes.Serve as an instructor, designer, or facilitator for any of the programs, services, workshops, and resources in academic success, early alert systems, intervention programs, and within other areas of expertise.Oversee and administer on-campus testing (i.e. DANTES, ACT, Nelson-Denny, Bader Reading Inventory, etc.) for admitted students and enrolled students needed for both diagnosis and academic progression.Analyze and interpret testing results for students. Serve as a resource for testing information and interpretation for students, faculty, and staff. Supervisory Responsibilities Academic Support Coordinator(s)Undergraduate and graduate Tutor CoordinatorsApproximately 150 student Peer Tutors Requirements: Master's degree in Student Affairs, education, counseling, or related field required with 5-6 years of related experience preferably in an academic environment. Exempt Salary range $97,330 - $111,932.50Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
