About the Role Our Organisational Resilience and Safety group's main goal is to make Ara Poutama, Department of Corrections better equipped to handle essential tasks effectively, even in unexpected situations.
It aims to improve our ability to foresee and manage risks while also learning from past mistakes.
Rather than just adding more rules, the focus is on reducing clutter and providing clear guidance that supports meaningful work and prioritises safety.
The Director Organisational Resilience, Learning & Assurance acts as the department's authority and one source of truth on critical risk identification, assurance, reporting and approach to management.
The role also leads the department's approach to learning from unexpected events, setting standards for how we learn from a variety of events, both those where work goes well and where it does not go well.
Reporting directly into the DCE OR& S, this role will sit on the Senior Leadership Team alongside its fellow directors.
As part of a function that came together in April 2024, there is huge opportunity for this role to set the department's vision and approaches for improving our organisational resilience, how we learn and how we assure ourselves.
This is an exciting new position, established in April 2024.
The role holder will have the responsibility to lead their function and the department into new areas, bringing the concept of organisational resilience to life across the organisation.
This role will be responsible for overseeing the assessment of near-to-real time changes and horizon scanning the potential for different critical risk scenarios and major operationally disruptive events.
The Director will also manage key relationships with a number of high profile internal and external stakeholders.
While there will be a need to be at National Office in Wellington regularly, we are open to candidates around the motu.
About You You are a senior leader who has been responsible for Health and Safety Learning and Assurance functions at large complex organisations.
Over your career you have gained senior level experience in applying contemporary sociotechnical concepts in critical risk management, organisational and systems resilience and health and safety.
Skills and Experience You will bring the following to this role: Proven experience in executing organisational transformation programmes relating to critical risk management, organisational resilience and assurance Familiarity with systems thinking concepts and foresight / forecasting techniques Experience collaborating with and influencing senior leaders Relevant tertiary qualification in risk, organisational resilience or similar Salary The mid-point of the salary range is $219,493 and the full range (85%-120%) is $186,570 - $263,392.
Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
