The Dunedin City Council (DCC) takes great pride in delivering a broad range of services to the communities of this unique and fascinating city. From our roads to recycling, public libraries and pools, water supply to walking tracks, and everything in between, DCC's people are talented and committed to serving their city.
Due to the retirement of our Director, we are now looking for a new Director of Library Services to join our team in 2025. The Director will be responsible for embedding the strategic vision for the Library Service, as well as the day-to-day operational management of the service, team leadership, financial management, and relationship building with mana whenua, key partners, and our community.
With your prior library sector experience, this could be the opportunity for you to bring your expertise and knowledge to take Dunedin's much-loved libraries to the next level.
About you As an experienced library professional, you'll be able to challenge existing practices, explore new service and partnership initiatives, embed bicultural practice, and identify efficiencies as we constantly look to improve our service delivery to the Dunedin community.

Your proven ability in fostering a great culture, together with previous experience in driving strategic initiatives, will empower our team to continue to deliver exceptional customer service and programming across our communities.
Day-to-day, your role will include the following: Delivering on the strategic vision for Dunedin Public LibrariesLeading and fostering a great team culture for our teamsLeading and implementing Te Taki Haruru – The DCC's Maori Strategic FrameworkManaging facilities, staff, and resources cost-effectivelyBeing responsible for internal and external reportingTaking care of staff and customer health, safety, and wellbeingOn-going professional development of library staff membersIdeally you will have: A postgraduate qualification in library and information managementPrevious experience in working in libraries at a senior management levelDemonstrated leadership and people management skillsExperience of embedding Te Ao Maori as bicultural practice with libraries or organizationsProven ability to contribute and lead policy development and strategic planningCustomer service focus with in-depth knowledge of the information needs of communities including people of different age groups and cultural backgroundsIn addition to the above, you will have excellent computer skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills.

Salary range: $125,000 – $150,000 gross per annum
