We're looking for a creative and driven leader to help guide the next stage of service design for all-of-government projects. If you're skilled in design thinking and service design, this role offers a chance to put those skills to work, setting strategic directions and implementing high-impact service standards that make a real difference. Digital Service Design Standard Consultant (two-year, fixed term role) - What You'll Be Doing In this diverse and dynamic role, no two weeks will look the same. You'll kick off exciting projects, like refreshing the Digital Service Design Standard, while diving deep into user needs and demonstrating to stakeholders the value of the work we're doing. You'll also be a key player in developing, prototyping, and rolling out the new standard, collaborating with a talented team along the way. Why This Role Matters You'll be joining the Digital Public Service/Te Kotui Whitiwhiti Branch, where our mission is to connect, influence, and support public service teams across New Zealand. We're helping the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) drive digital transformation and ensure government services evolve to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world. What We're Looking For A portfolio showcasing strong design thinking and service design skills. A relevant qualification in IT, digital design, service design, or related fields (or equivalent experience). Experience in user research or related fields. Proficiency in tools like Sketch, Figma, or similar prototyping software. Skills in interaction design (e.g., wireframing, user flows, customer journey mapping). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement. Ability to take feedback and adapt solutions to meet evolving needs. Confidence in presenting ideas, facilitating workshops, and leading discussions. A sharp eye for detail and a customer-centered approach to problem-solving. Bonus Points If You Have Knowledge of standards development, maturity assessment, or risk assessment. Familiarity with agile environments.
