We are expanding to facilitate the decarbonisation of our national electricity network and we're excited to be scaling up in our design team to meet this.
About the role
Part of Downer's Engineering Solutions Division, reporting to the Southern Design Manager, you will be working on projects across our electricity distribution agreements in Downer Energy's Western Region. The Designer / Estimator is part of a team responsible for the design and estimation of asset renewal projects, customer-initiated projects, major tenders, and defects.
A typical day for a Designer Estimator involves:
Getting out on site to investigate works and meet with customers.
Electrical Network Design using design and modelling software.
Engaging with internal delivery teams to develop works methodologies.
Preparing proposal and report documents.
Handing over comprehensive work packs to field teams for delivery.
The work we carry out covers the breadth of the electricity distribution industry and includes the following areas:
Substation works and protection schemes.
Communications systems.
Privately owned distribution networks.
Grid connected generation (solar, wind, BESS and emergency generation systems).
Who are you
The Western design team includes a diverse mix of people and we're looking for someone who is passionate about energy and has the following attributes:
Knowledge of electricity distribution networks is essential.
Experience in the power distribution industry.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant qualifications in the Electricity field are desirable.
Knowledge of electricity legislation and ability to work within industry standards.
This is a full-time role, working 40 hours per week, on projects based predominantly in the Manawatu-Wanganui region. You will ideally work from our Whanganui depot, with travel to site across the Manawatu-Wanganui as required.
