Position Title: Design Coordinator Reports To: Technical Manager Location: 8 Burnham Street, Lower Hutt, New Zealand Company: Niche Modular Construction Position Overview The Design Coordinator will support the Technical Manager in all aspects of design management and coordination for conventional and modular construction projects.
The role involves coordinating design activities, ensuring accurate documentation, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and assisting with the management of building and resource consents.
The Design Coordinator will play a crucial part in streamlining the design process, ensuring smooth communication between all parties, and maintaining high-quality design outputs within project timelines.
Key Responsibilities Design Coordination Assist in coordinating architectural, structural, MEP and other design elements, ensuring all designs align with project requirements.
Organize and maintain design project schedules, tracking deadlines for design deliverables and revisions.Facilitate communication between the Niche Group design teams, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure alignment on technical design aspects.Documentation and Control Manage design documentation, ensuring all design drawings, specifications, and changes are accurately recorded and filed.Ensure version control is maintained and that the most up-to-date documents are shared with relevant stakeholders.Assist Compliance Manager to prepare and submit documentation for building and resource consents, coordinating any revisions or additional requests from local authorities.Communication Management Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely responses to queries from contractors, clients, or design teams.Monitor Notices to Contractors (NTCs) and other formal communications, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely responses.Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding design-related inquiries, ensuring smooth and clear communication.Quality Control and Assurance Assist in reviewing design deliverables to ensure they meet project specifications.
Coordinate and assist with design audits and quality assurance reviews.Budget and Resource Coordination Track design budgets and ensure design activities remain within financial constraints, working closely with the Technical Manager.Help coordinate design resources, managing workloads for design teams and consultants as necessary.Construction Monitoring Support Help document any changes or revisions required during construction and communicate these effectively with the design and construction teams.Client and Consultant Liaison Assist with client communication to clarify design requirements and respond to feedback.Liaise with external consultants (architects, engineers, contractors) to ensure timely delivery of designs and revisions.Key Qualifications Education: Tertiary education in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred.Experience: 3+ years of experience in design coordination, project coordination, or a similar role in the construction industry.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with design and project management software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Project).
