Job Classification: Deputy Sheriff (Criminal Patrol) – Entry Level and Lateral Candidates
The Linn County Sheriff's Office is recruiting and building a continuous list for Deputy Sheriff (Criminal Patrol) – Entry Level candidates for current and future positions. The Sheriff's Office reserves the right to close this recruitment at any time.
Entry Level Candidates: All must complete the Frontline and ORPAT tests for this position. Candidates must pass all sections of the Frontline test and score 65% or higher on the video exam. ORPAT must be passed with a time of 5:30 or less. Oregon residents may complete the ORPAT through the National Testing Network (NTN). Verification of passing the ORPAT within one year can be attached to the NEOGOV application or submitted to Linn County directly.
Out-of-state applicants may be accepted without an ORPAT score initially but must complete it before a final job offer is made. Entry Level Candidates must complete both ORPAT and Frontline National tests and apply through NEOGOV for eligibility.
Salary Information: $5,155 to $6,491 per month (base salary)

Additional pay for education (up to 4%), bilingual skills (5%), special assignments, certification (up to 9%), and longevity (up to 7.5%).

Overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular rate, with the option to redirect to deferred compensation.
Uniforms and equipment provided, including an annual equipment allowance of $150.

Access to an on-site fitness facility available 24/7.
1% County contribution into HRA/VEBA account.
Job Requirements:
Age: 21 (at the time of employment)
US Citizen: Must be eligible to work in the US
High School Grad/GED: Required
Driver's License: Must possess a valid Oregon state license
Ability to Read/Speak English: Required
Vision: 20/30 corrected, as per Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST)
Certification: Must be able to be certified as a police officer by DPSST and meet their minimum standards.
Additional Requirements for Entry Level Candidates:
Must be a US citizen within one year of employment and at least 21 years old at the time of employment.
Must pass a medical exam, demonstrate physical fitness, and possess good moral character with no legal conduct involving dishonesty or moral turpitude.
Must complete all required training standards within 18 months of hire.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving history.
Basic computer skills, including proficiency with a keyboard and mouse.
Flexibility to work rotating or split shifts and alternative work schedules.
Must pass psychological, medical, and drug evaluations.
Background Check:
Extensive background investigation required.
Disqualifiers include felony convictions, misdemeanor convictions related to domestic violence, crimes of dishonesty, illegal drug activities, or repeated law violations.
Employment and military discharge history may require further documentation.
Must have a clean driving record and no arrests or convictions related to drug offenses.
Tentative Hiring Process:
Review of NTN scores (FrontLine National & ORPAT).
Review of NEOGOV application.
Informal interview for eligible applicants, followed by a job tour.
Formal oral board interview for eligible applicants.
Conditional offer of employment for selected candidates.
Pre-employment background investigation.
Employment is contingent upon medical evaluation, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
