Job Classification: Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) – Entry Level and Lateral Candidates
The Linn County Sheriff's Office is recruiting for Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) for both Entry Level and Lateral candidates. The Sheriff's Office is building a continuous eligibility list for current and future positions. This recruitment may close without further notice.
Lateral applicants should indicate their previous experience on the application, with salary based on experience level. Lateral candidates are not required to complete the REACT and ORPAT tests.
Entry Level Candidates: Must complete the REACT and ORPAT tests. Applicants must pass all sections of the REACT test, achieving a score of at least 80% on the video exam. ORPAT must be completed with a time of 5:30 or less. Oregon residents may take the ORPAT through the National Testing Network. Verification of passing ORPAT within one year of application can be attached to the NEOGOV application.
Out-of-state applicants may initially apply without an ORPAT score but must complete it before a final job offer is extended.
For eligibility, candidates must complete both the REACT and ORPAT tests and apply via NEOGOV for the Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) position.

Salary Information: $5,155 to $6,491 per month (base salary)
Benefits: Comprehensive health coverage for employees and dependents, including medical, vision, prescription, dental, optional life insurance, and long-term disability. Additional pay opportunities: Education: Up to 4% Bilingual: 5% for those fluent in Spanish (or other languages such as Russian or American Sign Language) upon passing a fluency test. Field Training Officer: 4% Certification: Up to 9% Longevity: Up to 7.5% Enrollment in the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) with additional county contributions. Overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular rate, with options to redirect to deferred compensation. Uniforms and equipment provided, plus an annual equipment allowance of $150. Paid vacation, personal, and sick time. Accumulation of up to 60 hours in Comp Time. On-site 24/7 fitness facility. 1% County contribution into HRA/VEBA account. Hiring Process Details: Background Check: Finalists undergo a comprehensive background check. Disqualifiers include, but are not limited to:
Felony convictions Misdemeanor convictions (e.g., domestic violence, crimes of dishonesty, crimes causing serious injury) Illegal drug-related offenses Repeated convictions demonstrating disrespect for the law Dishonorable discharge from the military Petty larceny convictions Drug Use Disqualifiers: No felony or misdemeanor drug convictions involving illegal substances, narcotics, or dangerous drugs. No use of marijuana or "natural medicines" as defined in relevant state statutes.
Additional requirements include proficiency in English, passing a psychological exam, drug screening, and an integrity interview. Candidates must demonstrate strong moral character.
DPSST Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen within one year of employment. Must be at least 21 years of age at employment start. Must be physically able to perform duties, as verified by a physician. Must maintain good moral fitness without any history of misconduct. Must complete all training standards as required by Linn County Sheriff's Office and DPSST within one year of hire. Tentative Hiring Process: Review of NTN testing scores (REACT & ORPAT). Entry-level applicants must achieve an 80% score or higher on the video exam. ORPAT time must be 5:30 or less. Lateral applicants are exempt from these tests. Review of NEOGOV application. Captain's Interview: A brief face-to-face meeting, potentially followed by a short job tour. Oral Board Interview: Formal interview for selected candidates. Conditional employment offer extended to top candidates. Completion of Personal History Statement. Pre-employment background investigation. Psychological evaluation, medical exam, and Sheriff's interview. Final job offer.
