Negotiable salary, contributable commuter use of vehicle and Monthly RDO Position No: 8099 The Building Services Unit have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified, highly motivated and adaptable person who is passionate about their career in building surveying. Leading a compact, supportive and engaging team, the Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor will provide advice and assistance to a diverse community of stakeholders across multiple facets of the building industry and community.
Working closely with the Municipal Building Surveyor, your role will involve actively managing, mentoring, and developing junior staff members. You will also be responsible for a wide range of key functions, including overseeing the day-to-day workload and officer availability to ensure prompt responses to investigations, approvals, audits, inquiries, and offsite inspections. Ensuring the efficient delivery and endorsement of all services related to building investigations, control and enforcement, assessments, approvals, permits, inspections, audits, and information according to established standards will be crucial. Additionally, you will be tasked with establishing and nurturing cooperative relationships within the Directorate, Council, and external authorities. Your accountability will extend to the operational performance of the team, including delegation and resource allocation for effective service delivery. Lastly, you will provide support to the Municipal Building Surveyor in executing various delegated duties and functions. 
Your attention to detail, initiative, and ability to motivate, communicate and lead staff effectively will allow you to meet various deadlines and provide effective support across the department, Council generally and various stakeholders within the community. This great opportunity is suited for someone who has an excellent understanding of building legislation and the implementation of same, good level of experience as a building surveyor including within Local Government, a Building Surveyor – Limited (BS-L) and/or Building Inspector – Unlimited (IN-U) registration with the Victorian Building Authority and a proven record of excellent customer service. Whilst the role is based in Gisborne, flexible and remote working options are available to you. 
Salary can be negotiated with the preferred candidate.
