The Higgins Christchurch Team have a unique opportunity for a Department Manager to join their leadership Team. We are seeking a candidate with strong commercial acumen that can develop and execute a strategic plan to expand and enhance our traffic department. With industry changes being implemented to reflect a more risk-based approach in the traffic industry, it is an excellent time to join the Higgins team and take the helm of the traffic department to shape it for success.
There is huge potential for growth in this role, we have guaranteed work in the region across a variety of projects including Christchurch City Council Southern Maintenance Contract and local NZTA projects. The work will continue to grow as Higgins increase their footprint across the South Island.
Experience in the traffic management industry is not essential to be successful in this role, we can provide you with training and development to build your knowledge and capability in this space. There will also be operational support available to manage the day-to-day operations. Wider industry experience is beneficial, but a strong commercial background is the foundation for success in this role.

What you will bring to the role: Experience in developing and executing comprehensive business strategies, with a strong track record of driving growth, optimizing processes, and achieving key business goals.
Solid commercial acumen, you will have the ability to make smart, profit-driven decisions.
Experience in a commercial role is sought after, wider construction industry experience is beneficial.
Prior commercial experience is essential, experience managing profit and loss, with a proven ability to drive business decisions that enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
Hands-on experience managing financial performance including cost management, monthly reporting and analysis (results / profit & loss).
An understanding of job pricing including materials, labour and plant and associated margin / profit calculations is beneficial.
Excellent people skills – Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams, fostering a collaborative environment that drives high performance and achieves business goals.
Prior experience managing internal and external customers with proven success. You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships to ensure exceptional service delivery and satisfaction.
A high level of knowledge and commitment to operational health and safety best practice.
Capability to support talent attraction and retention strategies to help grow Higgins self-perform capability.
Knowledge of the Christchurch market would be advantageous.
