This crucial knowledge point and connector role sits at the heart of Gisborne District Council.
Your core purpose will be to ensure effective operation and good governance of the democratic functions of the Council, and to ensure strong, professional relationships with Councillors and Council leadership.
This is a great chance to develop a career and be in a role that will see you sitting across a broad range of people leadership, engagement, partnerships and communications.
You will work closely with the Mayor, CEO and senior leadership team to provide a backbone of governance support and guidance.
Reporting to the Director of Engagement and Maori Partnership and leading a team of six – your role is to develop and ensure strong and well supported professional relationships and information flows with Councillors and Council leadership.
This will include oversight and execution of key processes and procedures, in line with the Local Government Act, as well as being the in-house LGOIMA champion.
You will be steering a team working across a change program aimed at enhancing Councillors' visibility and participation in key council activities while ensuring compliance with standing orders and policies.
The ideal candidate would be experienced in the nuances of local government or other public body entities.
A legislative bent will be highly regarded.
Intelligence, professionalism and a leaning towards best practice, process and governance will be common threads in your background.
You will have the ability to execute a strategic direction that ensures service is delivered in a professional manner that maintains a positive public profile.
You must recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how it underpins Gisborne District Council's work.
A connection to Tairawhiti and a desire to see this region thrive will see you fit right in here in this team.
This is a front facing relationship-based role, and it will be important you are able to remain impartial to the politics and keep a neutral stance.
You will bring with you your people leadership skills, and enjoy leading, developing and supporting a team.
You will be known for your professional approach and resilience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
