About the role An opportunity has arisen for a Democracy Adviser within the Democracy & Assurance team at Whangarei District Council.
This role supports local democracy by ensuring agendas, administration support, standing orders, and advice on the democratic process is provided in a timely manner.
About you This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve the best results.
Some knowledge of the Local Government Act and/or the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act would be beneficial, but it's more important that candidates can understand these pieces of legislation.
A related qualification or relevant experience would also be an advantage.
Our ideal candidate would have: Knowledge of LGOIMA and a basic understanding of other relevant legislation Strong administration skills and experience in preparing professional meeting agendas and minutes Understanding of local government systems and processes Ability to effectively facilitate and mediate between the operational and governance sides of local government Ability to operate effectively with a high level of diplomacy Adept in the use of communication technology Demonstrated ability to work well and support others within a team environment.
The successful candidate will be a great fit for the team and have transferable skills or relevant experience.
