Hourly Wage: $27.00 to $30.00 per hour Employment Status: Full-time (30+ hours per week) Employment Type: Permanent Places of Work: Queenstown, New Zealand Known as the "Adventure City", Queenstown provides the opportunity to test your adrenaline limits through a wide range of outdoor activities. Purpose As a Demi Chef, you are an important team member in the flow and efficiency of the kitchen, particularly in your assigned section. You take direction and guidance from the Senior Chef while developing your skills and learning more about the workings of a busy hotel kitchen. Working with the guidance of the Senior Chef, you ensure all food preparation, presentation, and cooking techniques are carried out according to established recipes, policies, and procedures. You are a stickler for never letting standards slip, ensuring strict hygiene and safety procedures are adhered to at all times. Primary Responsibilities Food production, presentation, and quality never slips below the standard. Ensure preparation of mise en place items for readiness of current and proceeding shifts. Maintain an efficient and smooth operation in your assigned section. Follow instructions from a senior chef, ensuring all food is prepared and presented professionally. Ensure correct storage and labeling of all food items and assist with cleaning utensils and equipment. Report any equipment faults to the maintenance department and keep communication open with other departments. Understand and observe safe work practices at all times. Be available to assist in other outlets, sections, or sister properties as required. Skills, Experience, and Requirements Ideally hold formal Industry Trade Qualifications or are completing a Commercial Cookery Qualification. Physically meet the demands of this role, including frequent carrying of plates and using fine motor skills. Gripping cleaning products and cloths for cleaning kitchen areas. Pushing and pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, including tiles and carpet. Lifting and relocating delivered goods regularly. Bending, reaching, and lifting kitchen equipment and utensils. Exposure to areas with higher temperatures. Engaging in preparation tasks at a waist-high bench. Immaculately presented with exceptional grooming and appropriate uniform.
