The Goodwood Park Healthcare Group is a progressive rehabilitation-based organisation and a leading provider of residential and community support services for vulnerable New Zealanders across the BOP, Waikato, and greater Auckland areas.
The Service
In partnership with Te Ara Poutama (Department of Corrections), Goodwood Park operates a transitional accommodation service in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty, which supports tane/men to reintegrate into the community. The service is able to offer up to 12 months secure accommodation and support for 15 people, with options for continued supports in the community after a participant leaves.
The service aligns with the Hokai Rangi strategy and offers supports to tane/participants in many areas including:
Looking after their basic needs upon entry into the whare
Completing re-integration plans
Connection with external community providers
Developing essential life skills
Reconnecting with whanau/family
Completing court-ordered programmes
Support with AOD and other significant health issues
Assistance to secure meaningful employment and long-term sustainable accommodation.
The Opportunity
The Goodwood Park Healthcare Group and Manaaki Support Services recognise that Maori are over-represented in the prison population and are seeking to appoint a Cultural Advisor to lead all aspects of the service in a manner that enhances and promotes greater understanding and connection to Te Ao Maori, Te Reo me ona Tikanga.
The Role
We are looking for someone with a strong link to Te Moana-a-Toi (BOP) region with a passion for improving outcomes for Maori, particularly those who have experienced the criminal justice system.
You will have experience in a similar role within health or the criminal justice environment. As a member of the rostered team, you will need to demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team to come together and work collectively to deliver high-quality supports and services in a manner that enhances the cultural understanding and wellbeing of tane/tane/participants.
A key aspect of the role will be the ability to liaise and work closely with Tapuika (Mana Whenua) to provide the maximum opportunity to enhance participant's growth, knowledge, and understanding of the land on which they reside.
The key tasks of this role include:
To ensure the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi are supported and implemented in the delivery of services
To have a strong understanding of Maori models of health and wellbeing, including the principles of Whanau Ora
To prioritise stakeholder relationships – particularly with Probation and Corrections
To demonstrate proficient interpersonal relationship skills to ensure a positive working and learning environment that enables staff both individually and as a group to perform to their highest ability and produce the best possible outcomes for tane/tane/participants.
Complete cultural assessments and deliver cultural supervision and education for staff.
Our ideal candidate for this role will possess the following skills and attributes:
A passion for reintegration of offenders
Driven to foster a positive, fun, uplifting team culture
Pro-active with problem solving, good time management, and great organisational skills
Able to work to deadlines, demonstrate resilience, and maintain a positive attitude
A full NZ driver's licence
Have flexibility to meet tane/participants support needs as required.
