Corrections Officer - PERU (Permanent or Secondment)About this rolePrisoners of Extreme Risk UnitWith the formation of the Prisoners of Extreme Risk Directorate in late 2019, a strengthened operating model was put in place to enhance the management and care of a small number of individuals posing the highest risk.Working within the Prisoners of Extreme Risk Unit (PERU) at Auckland Prison is a great opportunity to learn new skills, stretch your current thinking around good practice and look at Corrections from another perspective.Working as part of this closely knit team will require not only exceptional technical skills, but core attributes that centre on safety, communication, dedication to process and the ability to maintain focus and composure, no matter the situation. Individuals will need to demonstrate the highest levels of personal and professional integrity.ResponsibilitiesTo be effective in this role you will need to continuously meet the following requirements:Ensures correct ratios of staff are present for any activitiesEnsures interaction with Prisoners of Extreme Risk (PER) is professional and recorded on OBCRaises any concerns they may have to PCO/SCO such as any changes in behaviour, demeanour or activities that may increase riskUndertakes and records physical and camera observations 24/7Escorts PER for all out of unit activities including emergenciesEngages appropriately with PER regularlyApplies handcuffs (or other restraint) as and when required to the expected standardKeeps themselves, other staff and the PER safe.We have permanent and secondment opportunities.
