We are Wakatu Nelson, a city where creativity, prosperity, and innovation thrive. Our vision is to foster a community that is inclusive, resilient, and deeply connected. Here we prioritize caring for one another and our taio environment, building a vibrant and supportive place for everyone.
At the heart of the Nelson region, Nelson City Council is a Unitary Authority responsible for providing key infrastructure, transport services, economic development, and a range of regulatory functions. We are seeking a motivated Contracts Supervisor to join our transport team to provide day-to-day operational services and oversight for Nelson's Transport and Roading infrastructure.
You will be responsible for maintaining Nelson's electrical roading services and assets at an optimum level, providing solutions to technical issues as they arise. Electrical services and assets include traffic lights, parking meters, coin collection, CCTV contracts, and RAMM inventory contracts.
Furthermore, you will:
Manage contracts to deliver key elements of projects outlined in the work programme including developing specs, managing budgets, invoices, and contractors.
Proactively work with internal and external customers providing high-level customer service.
We value having people with diverse skills and experience. You will ideally have a qualification or relevant life experience in the transport sector that will provide the foundation for your success in this role.
You will:
Have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practicalities of roading and traffic management.
Experience in delivering key milestones to ensure successful delivery of capital/renewal works programmes.
High level of communication and relationship management skills.
Practical experience of contract management procedures and processes.
Understanding of RAMM software alongside good general Office 365 experience.
Personal prioritisation and time management skills.
Experience in civil defense response and emergency event network coordination would be beneficial; however, you will be offered training and development opportunities to enhance your skills for this role and for your future career aspirations. If you have a positive, customer-focused attitude and the ability and desire to learn, then we want to hear from you!
In return for your skills and experience, we offer you a fun, supportive, and experienced team who place high value in a positive team culture - the sharing of knowledge and resources, the support offered to each other to be successful, and the ongoing training opportunities available within the team and externally in the organisation are some of the elements we are proud of.
We encourage you to be innovative and bring your creativity - we are always looking for ways to improve what we do, to help ourselves and our customers.
