Contracts & Reporting Specialist – Electricity System

Details of the offer

Join a small, collaborative expert team integral to the power system's ability to keep the lights on for homes, businesses, and communities across the motu.
Transpower owns and operates the national grid, a critical utility that runs the full length of New Zealand from Kaikohe to Bluff.
As System Operator, we operate the wholesale electricity market and ensure supply (provided by generators) matches demand (by electricity users).
We are also responsible for ensuring New Zealand's electricity system is reliable, competitive, and innovative as we play an integral role in the planning of New Zealand's electricity future.
Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.
About the team The Market Services group supports real-time delivery of the System Operator service, provides information to enable a market response to evolving conditions including risks to security of supply, procures specialist market products such as ancillary services and supports stakeholder engagement with the System Operator.
The group also contributes to market development initiatives and is responsible for System Operator strategy, performance, reporting and regulatory contract management.
About the opportunity As the Contracts & Reporting Specialist you will be a key member of the Market Services team, engaging across the Operations division, including with the senior leadership team.
You will lead the preparation of system operator performance and planning reports and support the Market Services Manager in providing commercial management of contracts related to Transpower's delivery of the system operator service.
This includes the System Operator Service Provider Agreement (SOSPA) with the Electricity Authority, as well as contracts for ancillary services, grid electricity load, weather forecasting, and other professional services.
Externally, you will work with a range of stakeholders, including regulators, service providers, and contractual counterparties.
Internally, you and your team will partner across the wider Market Services group and other System Operator teams to coordinate commercial and contractual arrangements, including with the Electricity Authority and a range of ancillary services providers.
With a focus on delivery of the System Operator service strategy, business planning and performance reporting, you will ensure the reports and information you produce is accurate, compliant, useful and accessible, supporting System Operator transparency and wide participation in electricity markets for energy and ancillary services.
About you With experience gained from working in and navigating complex corporate environments, you will possess astute commercial relationship and negotiation skills, supported by excellent communication ability (both written and verbal).
You will also have the capacity to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely in language accessible to the intended audience.
Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate: 5+ years' experience in roles that include responsibility for commercial contract management, performance reporting, interpretation of legal contractual terms and regulations, and procurement processes.
Strong commercial acumen, experience in analysing and reporting on technical issues cognisant of strategic implications and financial impacts.
Proven stakeholder and relationship management skills with an innate ability to foster constructive stakeholder relationships through collaboration, influencing, partnership and coaching.
An analytical mindset and capability coupled with an ability to appropriately switch between a high-level, strategic big-picture view and the detail.
Experience in driving business and contractual performance through effective planning, analysis and reporting.
While not essential, knowledge of the Aotearoa New Zealand electricity market and system and an excellent understanding of the key issues impacting the electricity industry, market and security of supply would be advantageous.
A tertiary qualification in business, commerce engineering, law or related discipline, or relevant professional experience, is a requirement of the role.
