Located in the South Island of New Zealand the district of South Canterbury iscentrally located and an easy to place to live and work, with instant access toan array of outdoor activities. General Medicine Department at Timaru Hospital Currently,we are a team of nine general medicine specialists, each of the team having anadditional sub-specialty focus, that currently includes Neurology, ChestMedicine, Diabetology, Gastroenterology and Cardiology and Rheumatology. The Rheumatologyposition involves conducting rheumatology clinics, supported by a SpecialistRheumatology Nurse, with easy access to the Departments of Physiotherapy,Occupational Therapy, Orthotics, Pharmacy, Day Ward for infusions, in awell-equipped District General Hospital. This position also involvesbeing available to provide advice to General Physicians, GPs, OrthopaedicSurgeons, Emergency Physicians and if necessary, inpatient consultations duringnormal working hours on weekdays. It ispossible when making an engagement into this role, for us to consider includingan additional part-time component of General Medicine / Internal Medicine to thisappointment, (i. e. involving inpatient work and on-call responsibilities, withany such details to be negotiated). This could effectively create a full-timepost if so desired.
