Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.About the roleWe are recruiting for a Consultant Psychiatrist to be based at Ward 9C, Wakari Hospital. As an introduction, Ward 9C is a busy open 16 bed inpatient facility comprising of 2 acute youth beds and 14 acute adult beds with dedicated staff providing 24 hour care. The service caters to clients who have been assessed as requiring a period of increased assessment, investigations and/or interventions that cannot be safely provided for in the community. Admissions come via Community Mental Health Teams or the Emergency Psychiatric Service, and cover of all the major psychiatric diagnoses.Our 16 bed open plan Acute Inpatient ward provides care for the full range of general adult mental health disorders, including youth, mothers and babies, and eating disorders. Here you will work alongside experienced clinical staff and become an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. This role includes an on call component for the mental health directorate, which includes a 1:18 on-call roster shared by all consultants in our service.Our team enjoys a close relationship with the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Dunedin School of Medicine, providing ready access to continuing professional development and offering training to students. Due to the FTE nature of this role, you must be eligible for registration with the NZ Medical Council and be based in NZ. Your ability to provide clinical leadership and reliable medical input to the multi-disciplinary team is pivotal to the position. You will have a strong commitment to service user and family/whanau inclusion in service delivery and a focus on recovery. You will also have a sound understanding and commitment to biculturalism, as well as a demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and providing training to students at all levels.You will also need:Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.Experience in projects/initiatives that give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.Working for Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'.
