About the role
Located in Invercargill, the breadth of services provided by Southland Adult Mental Health Service includes the Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit (16-18 beds), the Invercargill Community Mental Health Team, the Southland Emergency Mental Health Team for the Southland population, a Child and Youth Mental Health Service and also a psychogeriatric service.
We are looking for Mental Health superstars to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Inpatient Unit or the Community Service to help us care for our local population. As a new team member, we offer a comprehensive orientation and induction to Southland Hospital and the Mental Health service. You will join a welcoming and unified group of Mental Health experts based at the Southland Hospital site.

About you:
Experience working with adult patients with mental illness in an Inpatient Unit and/or community setting.
A motivated team player who delivers high-quality care to patients and their family/whanau.
Commitment to clinical and professional development.
Current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Adhere to the professional codes of ethics and standards of practice of the New Zealand Medical Council.
You will also need the following:
Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
Key responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments.
Utilise evidence-based assessment tools and clinical expertise.
Provide individualised, client-centred therapy.
Monitor and evaluate clients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to support their mental well-being.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records and other required documentation.
Prescribe medications when appropriate.

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,38) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro-rata).
