Are you interested in developing a state-of-the-art recovery programme for individuals with complex mental health needs?We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to participate in the ongoing development of the recovery programme at Tamaki Oranga Recovery Centre. This 20-bed, free-standing residential facility is located in South Auckland and serves men with complex and persistent psychiatric disabilities, who require a longer-term, supportive recovery programme to prepare for life in the community. Over half of our service users are of Maaori or Pacific ethnicity, and it is a priority to make our service approach responsive to their cultural needs.
Tamaki Oranga Recovery Centre is part of Counties Manukau District Mental Health Services, which serves a population of about 600,000. Our area is culturally diverse and includes urban areas with easy access to the entertainment, arts, and culture of downtown Auckland, as well as beautiful rural areas and regional parks. Our regional hospital, Middlemore Hospital, is one of the busiest acute care facilities in Australasia, featuring the newest inpatient mental health unit in the country, Tiaho Mai.
We are looking for someone who demonstrates a genuine commitment to the diverse and culturally rich community of Counties Manukau. Our ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be highly organized, and exhibit honesty, integrity, and professionalism. You will need to promote teamwork and navigate the challenges of providing complex care to whaiora with intricate presentations, focusing on equitable health systems and outcomes.
Supported by the leadership team, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to strategic and service development. Working alongside the Service Manager, Acute & Hospital Services, the Clinical Head, and members of the Senior Leadership Team, you will support the implementation of service goals and foster a workplace of excellence by applying the latest evidence to inform the model of care.
Our Consultant Psychiatrist will be supported by a team consisting of nursing staff, a psychologist, a social worker, and an occupational therapist.
You will also be part of our psychiatric community of 70 physicians, with allocated time and opportunities to participate in weekly Grand Rounds, peer review, continuing medical education, and quality improvement to support your ongoing professional development.
Vocational registration with the Medical Council of NZ in the scope of Psychiatry and a current APC is essential at the commencement of employment.
