Details of the offer

Aotearoa, New Zealand. Our community teams work with an ethnically diverse community, including Maori, Pacific, and Asian communities in urban and rural settings (the North Shore, Rodney District and West Auckland).
Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) provides community and inpatient services for people experiencing serious mental health issues.
We provide assessment, treatment and support to:

People with severe mental disorders aged 65 or older
People of any age with primary dementia and serious behavioural and/or psychological symptoms.
People with pre-existing severe mental health disorders who would be better cared for by MHSOA, either because of significant medical co-morbidities or frailty.

MHSOA has two community teams: one in the North Shore area covering Rodney District and urban North Shore, and one in West Auckland. Our Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Team (STaR) works collaboratively across the district, providing intensive support.
Teaching and supervising psychiatry trainees, house officers, and medical students can be part of your work. We are an accredited training service and have rotating pre-examination and advanced trainees in psychiatry of old age. Clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team is a core function of our consultant psychiatrists' work, and the MHSOA service operates a clinical governance model to ensure close involvement of clinicians in service development, service planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
