Are you interested in helping us develop a state-of-the-art recovery programme for individuals with complex mental health needs?We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to participate in the ongoing development of the recovery programme at Tamaki Oranga Recovery Centre. Tamaki Oranga is a 20-bed, free-standing residential facility located in the South Auckland area. It serves men with complex and persistent psychiatric disabilities from across the motu, who need a longer-term, supportive recovery programme to prepare for life in the community. Over half our service users are of Maori or Pacific ethnicity, and it is a priority to make our service approach responsive to their cultural needs.Tamaki Oranga Recovery Centre is part of Counties Manukau District Mental Health Services. Our area comprises a population of about 600,000 and is very culturally diverse. It is one of the more urban areas of New Zealand, with easy access to all the entertainment, arts, and culture of downtown Auckland, but it also includes beautiful rural areas and regional parks. Our regional hospital, Middlemore Hospital, is one of the busiest acute care facilities in Australasia, and following a transformative rebuild incorporating the latest technology and co-designed with our whaiora and wider community, Tiaho Mai is the newest inpatient mental health unit in the country.We are looking for someone who demonstrates a genuine commitment to the people we serve within the diverse and culturally rich community of Counties Manukau. Our candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be highly organized, and demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism. You will need the ability to promote teamwork and navigate the challenges of providing complex care to whaiora with complex presentations by fostering a strong team culture and focusing on equitable health systems and outcomes.Supported by the leadership team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to strategic and service development.
