Details: Permanent Full time – 44 hours per week (42.5 hours per week (office hours) and 1.5 hours (averaged after-hours component)

This is a job where no two days are ever the same; you will see the full spectrum of psychiatry from enduring mental illness through to trauma, grief and distress.

Key responsibilities of the role:


Provide quality clinical services to tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau within Te Whatu Ora Waikato boundaries.
As a clinical expert, you will ensure that the appropriate and current knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the area of psychiatry, are applied to clinical situations and team decision making.
Participate in clinical partnership to ensure that tangata whaiora and their whanau receive integrated, appropriate, effective, and efficient assessment and care.

We are the Mental Health and Addictions Service arm of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu - Waikato. Home Based Treatment sits within our Crisis Assessment and Home Treatment (CAHT) team.


The Crisis Team provides support to service users experiencing acute crisis in the community. They are responsible for the assessment and provision of short term care for people in crisis. They are experts in acute care management, and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.


As part of the interventions available, Home Based Treatment (HBT) offers an alternative to hospital admission and is available from 8am to 8pm 7 days per week. Our goal is always to support service users in the least restrictive environment, and so if hospital admission is being considered for a service user, we encourage that HBT is considered first. HBT is a multidisciplinary service that provides a comprehensive and intensive package of intervention for up to 3 weeks.

Skills and experience you'll need to be considered for the role:


A Psychiatrist who is vocationally registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
A versatile and flexible clinician who has a passion for working as part of a team.
A person who is excited about and willing to contribute participate in service enhancement.
A clinician who is passionate about eliminating health inequities.
