Details: Permanent Full time – 44 hours per week (42.5 hours per week (office hours) and 1.5 hours (averaged after-hours component)

This role offers great variety. You will work with a number of specialists both internally and externally and have the ability to maintain excellent working relationships.
This is a job where no two days are ever the same; you will see the full spectrum of psychiatry from enduring mental illness through to trauma, grief and distress.
You will work with supportive and caring colleagues within a close-knit team.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Provide quality clinical services to tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau within Te Whatu Ora Waikato boundaries.
As a clinical expert, you will ensure that the appropriate and current knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the area of psychiatry, are applied to clinical situations and team decision making.
Participate in clinical partnership to ensure that tangata whaiora and their whanau receive integrated, appropriate, effective, and efficient assessment and care.

We are the Mental Health and Addictions Service arm of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu - Waikato. Puawai Regional Forensic Mental Health Service provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to people who have contact with the justice system and who have a moderate to severe mental illness. Puawai services the Te Manawa Taki region.
The inpatient environment includes; Puna Matai (acute), Puna Awhi Rua (sub-acute), Puna Poipoi (rehabilitation) and two transition wards (minimum security), Puna Whiti and Puna Taunaki. Apart from the transition wards all wards are secure.
This service also provides community services to the courts and prisons, and support for tangata whaiora in a community setting. It provides service to Waikeria, Springhill and Tongariro prisons. The Forensic Service also works closely with the Adult Service to support the transition of tangata whaiora between the two settings.

Skills and experience you'll need to be considered for the role:

A Psychiatrist who is vocationally registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
A versatile and flexible clinician who has a passion for working as part of a team.
A person who is excited about and willing to contribute participate in service enhancement.
A clinician who is passionate about eliminating health inequities.
