Consultant Physician: Internal Medicine, Medical Department 1.0 FTE The Medical Department at Te Whatu Ora - Tairawhiti is looking for Consultant Physicians to join our team. The department consists of eight Physicians with sub-speciality interests, and two Consultant Cardiologists. We currently have two full-time permanent positions available and are seeking applicants with subspecialty interests, one in Renal and the other in Gerontology.
We are looking for a physician with a knowledge base and experience within General Medicine including acute medical care. We see undifferentiated medical patients being admitted to the hospital and will obtain subspecialty advice from our tertiary centre if required. This allows for us to have a broad spectrum of practice.
The current schedule of work consists of being assigned to ward-based care three weeks on, then three weeks off to attend to administrative duties, CME activities, committee and audit work. Clinicians are also rostered for half-day outpatient clinics two times a week.
You should be passionate about providing an efficient and effective service for the Tairawhiti community and be able to provide clinical support for the multi-disciplinary team while working in conjunction with surgical, anaesthetics, nursing allied and cultural team members to deliver quality outcomes for patients. You will be expected to participate in all professional and quality assurance activities required by the Medical Department as well as a 1 in 6 on-call roster.
The medicine department at Te Whatu Ora - Tairawhiti has a full roster of registrars with both basic and advanced trainees providing 24/7 on-site care for medical patients as well as support in outpatient clinics.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a weekly educational clinical meeting and regular morbidity and mortality meetings. There are other educational opportunities including journal club, grand rounds, a Wednesday lunchtime senior medical staff teaching presentation, medical registrar teaching, and House surgeon team.
Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) Vocational registration in the Scope of Practice of Internal Medicine or eligible for MCNZ Provisional Vocational registration in the Scope of Practice of Internal Medicine.
Have a current New Zealand driver's license or ability to obtain one.
