Position Overview: As a Project Construction Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of greenfield renewable energy projects, specifically solar farm developments. The first project for delivery under this role is the Tauhei Solar Farm, a 200MWp solar farm in the Waikato region.
Working within standalone construction management projects or as part of an EPCm (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction management) team, you will oversee the project's entire lifecycle, ensuring that it is completed within scope, on schedule, at the highest quality, and within budget.
You'll be joining a dynamic and growing team of experienced professionals based in New Zealand, contributing to the development and growth of New Zealand's renewable energy sector.
Position Responsibilities Project Management and Execution Lead the day-to-day construction activities, managing coordination between the Client/Principal and Contractors.Oversee the Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.Manage project meetings, including scheduling, leading, and documenting discussions and decisions.Coordinate stakeholder engagement, including landowners and local community interactions.Oversee the organization of construction documentation, such as contracts, permits, drawings, and change orders.Evaluate commercial, financial, environmental, social, and technical factors, making informed decisions with input from relevant team members.Make recommendations regarding settlement of any claims by contractors.Assess project risks, implementing mitigation measures to minimize delays and challenges.Track project progress, managing timelines, payment milestones, and overall project performance.Review and approve the Contractor's Risk Management Plan, ensuring all risks are adequately identified and mitigated.Manage and report on variation claims with contractors in line with contractual timeframes and obligations. Review and recommend variation claims for approval.Manage and report on project delivery performance and timing against the relevant project programmes.Health and Safety, and Environmental Compliance Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, managing these aspects on behalf of the Client/Principal.Review, approve, and audit Health and Safety Management Plans to meet regulatory, local, and project-specific standards.Conduct regular health and safety audits, addressing and reporting any issues of non-compliance promptly.Manage any external independent health and safety audits and implement appropriate recommendations received.Quality Control and Assurance Independently audit the Contractor's quality management processes in line with the approved Quality Plan.Conduct inspections and sign-offs based on the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and Quality Management Plan.Perform thorough visual inspections and verification testing of ongoing and completed works.Ensure that all design variations are properly recorded and reflected in as-built documentation.Identify areas for improvement and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the project.Manage risks through proactive identification and mitigation. Management of risk registers and reporting.Progress Monitoring and Reporting Hold regular progress meetings with the project team, resolving issues and keeping the project on track.Provide daily and weekly construction progress reports, highlighting milestones and key metrics.Monitor and track project KPIs, providing regular updates to stakeholders, including progress, risks, and budget performance.Maintain comprehensive and accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.Deliver regular reports to shareholders, lenders, and key stakeholders on both construction and operational aspects.Stakeholder Management Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including Contractors, Subcontractors, Operators, Landowners, Shareholders, and Financial Partners.Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.Work closely with the Technical Director, Principal Representative, and Project's Owner's Engineer to deliver a successful project.Qualification and Experience The preferred candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Engineering degree), and Project Management Certification (e.g. PMP or equivalent).Minimum of 10 years of on-site construction management experience, preferably EPCm experience within renewable energy or large-scale solar projects.Certifications in health and safety are highly desirable.In-depth knowledge of construction regulations, environmental laws, and health and safety standards.Familiarity with electrical infrastructure, civil works, and Balance of Plant (BoP) systems specific to solar energy projects.Proven leadership skills, with a track record of managing construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.Experience working with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts and managing multiple stakeholders.Strong communication skills, with fluency in English (written and verbal).Proficiency in MS Office and Google Apps Suite.Willingness to travel to the project site or relocate as needed.Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.NO RECRUITERS PLEASE Apply for jobLevel 10 The Shortland Centre,
