Details of the offer

Join us in the ongoing restoration of the Papakura Stream, a 63km freshwater river facing significant environmental challenges. Once surrounded by indigenous forests and kahikatea swamps, this stream has seen the loss of most of it's natural forest due to agricultural, industrial and urban developments. Today, the stream is dealing with the modern problems of litter, dumping and other man-made pollutants. CVNZ and our amazing volunteers have been working hard to restore the mauri (lifeforce) of this important awa, and have been bringing the community together to remove pest plant species, clean up litter and plant natives along it's banks and reserves. In 2024, we aim to plant over 35,000 plants along the Papakura Stream.
After a morning of hard mahi, recharge with a mouth-watering sausage sizzle - veggie options available. Transport from our office in Mount Eden can be organised by prior arrangement.
What to wear: Please wear sturdy, comfortable, closed toe footwear and something you don't mind getting a little muddy (gumboots are strongly recommended), appropriate outdoor clothing (lightweight long sleeved clothing and trousers are needed to protect yourself from cuts and scratches and insect bites/stings).
What to bring: CVNZ will supply all of the tools and equipment required for the day. Please bring with you a hat, raincoat/waterproof jacket, sunblock, a snack, full reusable water bottle and any medication you may need (hayfever medication, inhalers etc). We will have extra water to refill bottles, sunblock, snacks and insect repellent with us on the day.
