Your journey starts here!Are you an established New Zealand composer?Would you like to write full-time for 9 months while living in the Lilburn Residence?Do you have a track record of substantial compositional activity over a number of years?Korero mo te turanga - About the roleThe Creative New Zealand/NZSM Composer-in-Residence is a 9-month position for established composers working in any genre (including sonic arts, jazz composition, soundtrack composition, classical composition, taonga puoro composition, etc.)
who have a track record of sustained, substantial compositional activity over a period of years.
The successful candidate will be based at the Lilburn Residence, the former home of Douglas Lilburn, in Thorndon, Wellington, for a small rental.
This position is from March to December 2025.The position is jointly funded by Creative New Zealand, Lilburn Residence Trust donors, and the NZSM Composer-in-Residence Endowment Fund, with the NZSM and Lilburn Residence Trust acting as host organisations.
This position fosters and expands the New Zealand musical landscape by providing an established composer with the opportunity to write full-time for the period of tenure.The selection committee will comprise at least 2 members of the staff of the NZSM, one member of the Lilburn Residence Trust, plus one external expert.
The committee will base their decision on the artistic standards and track record of the applicant, as evidenced through a CV and portfolio of representative works, as well as the potential of the proposed works for the residency to make a significant contribution to New Zealand music.
