Our Regulatory Compliance unit contributes to ensuring the safety of our residents and achieving beneficial community and environmental outcomes. You can read more about our compliance strategy here.
The Compliance & Investigations team investigates breaches and ensures compliance activities are lawful under the many pieces of legislation we administer such as the Building Act 2004, Resource Management Act 1991, and Local Government Act 1974 and 2002.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
On any given day you may be:
Providing advice and information on environmental compliance and enforcement matters.
Receiving, assessing, and responding to complaints in a timely manner.
Gathering information to aid investigation.
Determining the integrity of complaints and the level of non-compliance.
Initiating appropriate compliance/enforcement action.
You'll be a positive and proactive team player, who leads by example and takes a strategic approach to delivering outcomes. Establishing and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of customers and internal stakeholders will come naturally to you. You will also have:
Minimum diploma, degree level tertiary qualification, or relevant work experience in one or more of the following: Building Industry, Resource Management or Enforcement.
Practical application or experience in the building industry, an investigative type of role or related field applying enforcement legislation.
Understanding and application of one or more of the relevant legislations to this role (see PD for more information).
Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to de-escalate difficult situations with a solutions focus.
Clear and concise communication, ensuring your message is understood by the audience.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $78,464 to $87,182 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
