Technical Competency Auditor / Assessor | Building ConsentJoin our passionate capability team with your experience in regulatory building control and technical competency assessment skills.Any proven Commercial 1-3 experience would be highly desirable.Excellent benefits including hybrid working opportunity.We are seeking interest for experienced professionals from the building industry to join our Capability team responsible for Auckland Council's Building Consent Authority competency assessments, technical audits, and specialist functions such as the development of technical training material, and Licensed Building Practitioner complaints, amongst other duties. The team predominately works within the Building Act 2004 and the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006 framework.
Reporting to the Team Leader Assessment, we will look to you to actively provide leadership in the development of our staff through performing competency assessments, technical audits, and staff training. This role will provide you with the opportunity to ensure staff are maintaining knowledge and expertise and to ensure the technical criteria for competency assessments are met and reflect what is happening in the industry.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on: Identify training needs from analysing audit results, competency assessment outcomes and staff feedback.Development of training plans for the Building Consents unit in response to identified training needs.Collaborate with teams across the region to implement high-quality staff training in Building Consents technical functions, ensuring compliance with both BCA accreditation and TA requirements.Participate in the delivery of training to enable effective and consistent processing, inspection and certification, ensuring all staff performing technical roles hold the Regulation 18 qualification.You will have significant experience in building-related regulatory services (processing consent applications or conducting competency assessments), have good process orientation with an ability to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills to promote continued business improvement. Computer literacy skills will be visible through the production of reports, monitoring and reviewing of statistical information, and research of applications. It is preferable that you have been assessed for Appendix 2 under the National Competency Assessment Framework (NCAS).
This is a grunty and substantial piece of work, and we'll be looking for individuals with the right experience and qualifications to match it. If you have a current Com 1-3 processing competency, advanced knowledge of NZ Building Codes and Building Act and NZ Level 6 or higher (or overseas equivalent), this may just be the role for you!
What we are looking for: High level of training and communication skills, including presentation and facilitation skills.Experienced in coaching, mentoring and training staff within Building Consents technical functions.Highly developed analytical skills and the ability to evaluate competency assessment evidence to prescribed levels.A qualification recognised by Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authority) Regulations 2006 or is working towards a recognised qualification.5 years of experience in building consenting related fields preferred, or a minimum of 3 years of experience assessing employee competency in technical roles.We have a reputation of taking care of our own and as such will provide you with extensive training programmes and ongoing robust development career.
