About this role:
Our Communication Team has undergone some exciting changes. Our newly created Trust and Confidence Strategy creates visibility and responsiveness - making meaningful connections between who we are and what we deliver, and what our communities want us to understand and do.
One of the key roles in our new team is the Community Relations Specialist. This role will focus on leading a team of specialists, our key messaging and our media relationships and strategy. You will provide guidance and advice to teams across our business on effective community communication and engagement. You will work closely with our Maaori Partnerships team on upholding Maaori values and principles in communication.
In essence, you will play a crucial part in shaping the communication landscape across the district, supporting projects, and influencing strategic outcomes.
The role is varied and fast-paced and will require adaptability, strategic thinking and the ability to influence multiple stakeholders.
What I do:
You will be leading a team of specialists focusing on insights from across our district who drive relevant and targeted organisational communication and community responsiveness through various channels.
You will support the strategic development of key messaging for the organisation.
Provide support to teams across Council, with planning communications with a clear strategic direction, using insights to drive decision-making, including the Mayoral office.
You will oversee media relationships, the strategy and management of media, and be the primary contact for journalists. You'll ensure that the strategy builds trust in confidence in our Council.
You will support branding/tone of voice capability development across the organisation.
You will stay current on industry trends and best practice, leveraging insights, channels and other technologies for improvement and innovation.
What I bring:
You're a communications leader with experience in media management.
You have a focus on strategic communications driven by insights and data.
You are a natural coach, who can mentor and support others to deliver on ambitious outcomes.
You are comfortable in an environment that embraces Te Ao Maaori and have knowledge, or a willingness to gain an appreciation, of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana.
Your positive attitude and optimism are matched by your strong work ethic and drive to succeed.
Why join our team?
The team is motivated - they're ready to do things differently. They are committed to improving communication and engagement with our communities.
We have a collaborative culture with good work-life balance. We offer truly flexible work, generous leave provisions including birthday leave and work life days, free flu shots, free parking and an active social club.
We value people bringing a diverse set of skills and experience to the team, so if you are seeking a change, variety, opportunities for professional development, and have an interest in local government, this could be the role for you!
