Do you want to do something to support your community and Police to reduce local crime?
Safer communities are achieved when people take an active role in preventing crime happening to themselves, their families, and friends.
CPNZ works with Police and shares the objective of creating safer, more caring communities.
Through being a member of a Community Patrol, people can create relationships throughout their local community and learn how to protect one another by working with Police. Community Patrollers are trained to know what to look out for as they act as extra "eyes and ears" through intelligence and observation for New Zealand Police.
In your role as a community patroller, you will engage with community members and businesses to promote and foster a heightened sense of safety.
Through your patrolling, you will create CPNZ visibility to deter and prevent crime from happening.
CPNZ is highly risk-averse; as partners to the police, we support their role by observing and reporting various concerns using our TENR framework for assessing all the decisions that we make (THREAT, EXPOSURE, NECESSITY, RESPONSE).
As a CPNZ Patroller, many opportunities will be presented to you regarding training, practical experience, attending community events and concerts, and also participating in our Pathway to Police programme. If you are interested in joining the police, you could not be in a better place! Our wrap-around support will not only prepare you for the police recruitment process, but your application will also be strengthened from having community engagement experience.
Requirements:
An interest in community safety and crime prevention.
A deep respect for and appreciation of New Zealand police.
A clean and tidy presence.
A high level of altruism and appreciation for cultural diversity.
Confidence to engage with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Competence to promote CPNZ and engage with community/businesses.
An ability to build and strengthen the CPNZ relationship with community/business.
Health that would not prevent you from meeting your CPNZ patrol minimum obligation.
Police vetting clearance.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment:
Auckland Central Community Patrol's minimum patrol obligation is 4 hours per month - however, we encourage you to join as many patrols that fit your lifestyle!
Mandatory online training.
Any other training that prepares and supports your role/personal development as a CPNZ patroller.
