Lifewise is an innovative organisation working together with marginalised people to create better services and solutions to enable their full participation and ability to thrive. The role of the Community Learning Facilitator is to engage with Merge Community whanau through courses and ongoing one on one support encouraging engagement in learning. Mainstream pathways and courses do not meet the needs of this often dis-enfranchised cohort.
Many have dropped out of traditional school and dis-engaged with institutional learning. However, we have proven that, they can thrive if they have understanding and patient tutors and content that is relevant to them. Our work so far in this space suggests that an in-house learning facilitator will be more successful than an external provider.
The Community Learning Facilitator is part of the Merge Community working alongside both the Merge Community Team Lead and Community Capability and Capacity Builder.

As stated in The Three Trusts Policy on Delegated Authorities WHAT YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR
delivering custom designed short courses for Merge Community including learners licences, class 2 theory test, general digital upskilling and workplace skills for volunteers and staff (peer support, Works Crew and Cafe) continuing to support our first cohort of Peer Support 'apprentices' to gain a Level 4 Health and Well Being Qualification investigating, advocating and applying for funding to support and extend learning within Merge community from TEC and other organisations co-ordinating Merge / Lifewise's tender to become a MSD contractor for driving licence support. The tendering process is likely to start in January 2023 providing adhoc digital and literacy support to whanau, volunteers and staff twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays assisting whanau get work ready (if requested) – CV guidance, role play for interviews, writing emails Supporting the Community Capacity Builder (as requested) to develop pathway for further learning / apprenticeships / volunteering Developing relationships with other similar organisations Mentoring whanau to develop career / work goals (for those who are ready or wish to) Content delivered is determined by learners' needs and interests but is likely to include the following:
Digital upskilling for everyday life - creating and using email accounts, completing online forms, creating a trade me account / MyMSD, recovering lost passwords Financial literacy - banking online, emailing debt collectors, understanding benefit payments / deductions Digital upskilling for work - using word, excel, Lifewise systems, storing and naming photos / documents and using an electronic calendar Communication training - managing conflict, problem solving, working with different personalities, writing effective emails Train the trainer - for new peer support volunteers so they can digitally upskill whanau Basic literacy and numeracy training for those that are interested Creating pathways to other study / qualifications - Class 2 drivers licence Note: The above responsibilities are provided as a guide only. Performance measures will be discussed between the team member and manager as part of the performance planning and review process.
WHAT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU NEED
Teaching background preferably with adults Experience of engaging with homeless or other marginalised groups Some Te Reo Maori would be useful Non-judgmental and curious working style Good communication Self-starter – happy to 'cold call' organisations Resilient and determined Good computer literacy including the ability to solve basic IT issues HOURS OF WORK
This is a part time role – 20 hours a week. Fixed hours are currently as follows:
Drop in sessions at Merge Cafe on Monday and Wednesday mornings - 10am to 12noon Driving licence sessions – Mondays - 1pm to 3pm Study group for Level 4 Peer Support apprentices – Tuesday 10am to 12 noon Digital Upskilling sessions – Tuesday 1pm to 3pm One on one sessions or Literacy sessions – not yet started but planned for Wednesdays 1pm to 3pm One on one sessions (prearranged) Tuesday afternoons About us

About the role
Are you passionate about educational support and fostering holistic learning experiences? We are looking for Community Learning Facilitator – to join our team on a part-time contract (24 hours per week) basis based amongst Merge Community .

We are seeking a compassionate and adaptable individual who is passionate about education. They will excel in personalised support, possess strong communication skills, able to maintain and build positive relationships and embrace cultural diversity.
You will also bring with you:
NZQA /unit Standards 4098 – Uses standards to access candidate performance Level 4 or New Zealand Certificate in Assessment Practice Level 4 A Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching Level 4, desirable. A certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education Level 5 (NCALNE) A Full clean New Zealand Drivers' License. 2-4 years' experience in education, mentoring, coaching, facilitation, or learning support. As a kaupapa Maori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Ahuatanga Maori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
