Christchurch City Mission – Christchurch, South Island The Christchurch City Mission, Te Whare Mihana Ki Otautahi, is a social services agency offering support for those who need it, regardless of their circumstances. We offer assistance to those who are marginalised through social and economic factors and who are at risk through unemployment, inadequate housing, family breakdown, addiction, financial difficulties or mismanagement, abuse or other difficulty. We work in preventative ways and in response to crisis with education and training, addiction support and counselling. Through our work in the community, we empower people to successfully re-integrate into society with renewed self-esteem, fostering independence. About the Position The City Mission's Community Development team helps and supports Christchurch people in their own communities through a variety of projects and hubs. Reporting to the Community Development Team Leader and in collaboration with the Anglican Parishes of Burnside-Harewood and St Aidan's Bryndwr parish, the Community Development Kaimahi will: Bring together individuals and whanau to connect, learn, and grow while supporting the development of networks and connection with the community. Develop and support community activities, projects, and events in response to community needs and aspirations. Provide information, support, advocacy, and referrals to other services as needed. Assist in existing parish activities and ensure effective use of community locations. This is a 12-month fixed term position, 24 hours per week with flexibility, generally worked between the hours 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. Ideal Appointee We are seeking a candidate with the following skills and experience: Social Services qualification or equivalent combination of qualification and experience. Experience in Community Development, connecting and empowering communities. Alignment with the values of the Anglican Parishes of Burnside-Harewood and St Aidan's Bryndwr. Experience working alongside a diverse range of people and life experiences, including with mental health issues, substance misuse, and trauma. Warm, empathetic, with strong communication and listening skills. Problem-solving initiative and continuous improvement mindset. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Driver's licence and current First Aid certificate. Strong conflict resolution and crisis management skills. Knowledge of Canterbury's social support services and networks. Commitment to learning about Te Reo and Tikanga Maori. Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team. Ability to set boundaries and recognize personal limitations. Alignment with the ethics of Christchurch City Mission and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
