Communications and Public Programme Manager Marketing Communications (Marketing & Communications)
We are seeking an experienced Communications and Public Programmes Manager to drive marketing strategy, public and community outreach programmes, and build awareness and audiences for the district's art gallery. If you are passionate about art, community engagement, and strategic communication with experience driving digital content, we have an exciting opportunity for you!
Role Overview:
The Communications and Public Programmes Manager role is for 24 hours per week and is responsible for:
Develop and Implement Marketing Strategies:  Collaborate on dynamic marketing campaigns promoting Toi MAHARA's exhibition programme
Manage Digital Content:  Oversee website and social media, create engaging content and increase visitor views and numbers
Drive Audience Engagement:  Promote exhibitions, public programmes, and events, expanding the gallery's reach locally, regionally, and nationally.
Create Clear & Compelling Communications:  Produce newsletters, support promotional activities, and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including local government elected members and officers.
Coordinate Public Programmes:  Plan and deliver a range of public events, workshops, and community outreach initiatives in collaboration with the gallery's talented team.
Qualifications you will have:
Minimum 5 years' experience in communications in a similar role, with expertise in creating engaging content and managing marketing campaigns appropriate to our public gallery context, model and budgets.
Proficiency in digital platforms and social media management. Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp and Microsoft 365 is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
About you:  An energetic, detail-oriented professional with a passion for the arts and community engagement. An appreciation and understanding of tikanga and te ao Maori, and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to support a strong focus on toi Maori across the programme.

Toi MAHARA is the Kapiti Coast District contemporary public art gallery managed by the Mahara Gallery Trust, showcasing local creativity, toi Maori, historical taonga and is the home of the Field Collection, a renowned art collection which includes 24 works by Frances Hodgkins, one of New Zealand's most significant expatriate artists. Since reopening in November 2023 the team has delivered sixteen diverse exhibitions, multiple workshops, and special events. With a focus on expanding the gallery's reach and relevance, and an exciting exhibition programme, Toi MAHARA offers a supportive and creative environment for staff.
