Collection Development Librarian

Details of the offer

We're looking for a Collection Development Librarian to join our Collection Development team in Libraries, Community Spaces & Archives on a full-time, fixed term basis until March 2026.
The Collection Development Team is responsible for the selection, allocation, management, and deselection of material for our libraries' collections. They work with all formats, genres, and audiences, taking a big picture view of library collections across the whole library network. As we approach the re-opening of Te Matapihi, our Central library, we need to prepare our library collections.
We're looking for someone with previous experience in collection management and ideally experience with managing a budget. You'll have a level 5 Certificate or Diploma in Library and Information studies (or similar). You will also have a strong customer focus, be able to communicate clearly with both internal and external stakeholders, and be able to work confidently in a team without direct supervision.
In this role, you'll be responsible for managing your own buying areas and budgets for specific collections and collection tasks we have identified, but we will take into consideration your relevant experience and skills. As well as selection and deselection you will be expected to respond to customer suggestions and enquiries, support branch staff with collection work, and maintain relationships with our suppliers. You'll be required to understand how to analyse data and use collection tools to inform your decision making. You will work alongside Collection Specialists in their core areas to support them as they organise and curate collections for Te Matapihi, assisting them to develop collections for its opening and beyond.
This role is working during normal business hours, Monday - Friday. Whilst the role is currently primarily based in Te Pataka in Johnsonville, your project work may take you across the library network. In the medium term, the roles at this facility are expected to move into the CBD.
We are looking to appoint between $68,855 and $76,144 depending on skills and experience.
All applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand and be prepared to obtain and maintain a Police Vetting check.
