Clinical Director – Peri-operative ServicesWe are looking for an experienced Clinical Director interested in joining the Peri-operative service at Whangarei Hospital, Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau. Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau provides public health services across the Northland region, serving a population of over 200,000 people. Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three rural hospitals. Of these, only Whangarei and Kaitaia Hospitals have operating theatres, with Whangarei being the only provider of surgery out-of-hours.
Whangarei Hospital has 8 operating theatres and a procedure room co-located in the operating theatre suite, as well as a 2-room endoscopy suite. It provides a wide range of surgical sub-specialties and all emergency surgery for the region. The case-mix is varied and challenging, with a high volume of complex planned surgery as well as a busy trauma service.
Peri-operative Services in Northland provide a 24/7 service to Whangarei Hospital as well as the elective surgery delivered at Kaitaia Hospital. You will be directly leading a team of approximately 30 Specialist Anaesthetists, together with Anaesthetic SHOs and Registrars who rotate from the Auckland region as part of their training. This role gives clinical oversight and leadership to the wider peri-operative teams.
We are looking for a motivated, experienced Clinical Director to provide effective and high-quality leadership to our peri-operative services. The role involves both clinical time and clinical director responsibilities.

To be considered, you must have or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in an Anaesthesia scope of practice. You will have experience in health leadership and managing change in New Zealand and/or an equivalent health care system.
