The Canterbury Eye Service at Christchurch Hospital provides acute and elective services at a secondary and tertiary level to the people of Canterbury and Westland and provides tertiary level services to the South Island and quaternary level to people of New Zealand.
Ophthalmology is a rewarding specialty with its mix of patients from the very young to the elderly. We service a large pool of patients and with that comes high volume clinics supported by a large team of 80 committed staff who enjoy what they do.
This role is based in Christchurch Hospital and is a permanent part-time position working 32 hours per week.
As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement, this role has been mapped to National Band 5 steps / Profile 5B.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Carrying out work to Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury standards (and Ministry of Health targets) for booking practicesEnsuring Ministry of Health Guidelines are followedTyping and uploading patient referrals and reportsEnsuring all information is collated, and patient records are complete and managedMaintaining patient confidentiality and privacyVarious administration tasks and support in other administrative areas when requiredTechnically savvy – experience with data systems and quick at picking up new applications/systemsExcellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skillsAbility to achieve high levels of accuracyAbility to meet deadlines and work unsupervisedAbility to manage and coordinate a range of different inputs to achieve the agreed outputsA team playerIntermediate to advanced user in the Microsoft suite of products e.g. Word, Outlook, ExcelExcellent keyboard skillsHigh level of written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated perceptiveness and a proactive approach in an administrator roleBroad administrative experience in a health-related fieldAwareness of people of differing cultural backgroundsKnowledge of medical terminologyFamiliarity with the public hospital system (including the patient management system)Ophthalmology or Diabetes knowledge would be advantageousPrevious participation in a national screening service"Ko nga tangata, te matua mahi" - Putting people at the heart of all we do" We are committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles by ensuring our partnership with Maori are at the forefront of all our conversations.
