Pacific Environment and our partners fight fossil fuels and champion clean energy, challenge industrial models that disregard local interests, and bring grassroots concerns—and whenever possible grassroots leaders—to national and international bodies to advocate for policy solutions that reflect community needs and values. Pacific Environment operates as a campaigner, coalition-builder, grantmaker, and thought partner. We provide direct funding and technical assistance to grassroots environmental activists in the regions where they work. We complement these community-led efforts with national and international coalition-building and advocacy to decision-makers to support policy changes that prioritize local interests and resolve the root causes of environmental challenges. Pacific Environment has a strong track record of local and international achievement. Position The Climate Campaign Director, Corporate will lead Pacific Environment's Ship It Zero campaign and all corporate strategies to influence major shipping companies and shipping-reliant corporations to rapidly transition ships off fossil fuels. The successful candidate will also lead the build out of additional corporate, finance sub-strategies to accelerate shipping and port decarbonization. This will include but not be limited to advancing strategies to expose the harms of current fossil-fueled global trade, using tactics such as earned media and other communications, reports, direct actions, direct negotiations with companies, technical analyses, and shareholder advocacy. They will seek commitments from major companies to insist on zero-emission maritime supply chains, hold companies accountable to commitments, and publicly shame laggard companies.
The ideal candidate is a values-based leader and campaign strategist with experience managing international, local-to-global campaigns, experience managing teams, a record of leadership in winning corporate pressure campaigns, a passion for moving society beyond fossil fuels, experience in large coalition efforts, and a commitment to climate justice and equity.
The Climate Campaign Director, Corporate will report to Pacific Environment's Senior Director, Climate Campaign.
Location and Travel This position is remote and requires working West Coast time zone hours, with a preference for physical presences in greater Los Angeles are or greater San Francisco Bay area. The position will involve domestic, and possibly international, travel. Pacific Environment is sensitive to COVID-19 and other potential obstacles to safe travel.
 
\n ResponsibilitiesDevelop and lead the Ship it Zero corporate campaign.Develop and lead new corporate and finance sub-strategies within the U.S., Pacific Rim, and globally to achieve zero-emission shipping.Directly advocate climate policy positions to corporations, allies, and partners to advance shipping-specific policy changes using tactics such as direct actions, communications campaigns, events, and more. Manage, inspire, and empower a team. Cultivate partnerships and coordinate closely with partner organizations in various coalitions – including community partners, labor partners, environmental justice partners, academic partners, and more – to broaden constituencies of support.Project manage consultants and/or staff to develop technical analyses, memos, and advocacy products as needed.Represent Pacific Environment with the press, in coalitions with key allies, and in key policy forums. Other tasks as determined by the Senior Director, Climate Campaign. Key Qualifications Minimum 7 years of relevant experience managing successful corporate campaigns and policy advocacy campaigns on a local, national, and international scale. At least 3 years managing direct reports.Experience in conducting corporate research, including analyzing SEC filings and Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) reports.Experience and expertise in climate/energy issues and policies, including in shipping, ports, and/or other heavy industry sectors. Experience and expertise in environmental, racial, and economic justice; including excellent advocacy, listening, consensus-building, coalition-building, and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with other staff, organizations, and diverse communities. Commitment to environmental justice and racial equity, and helping communities have a strong voice in decision-making. A record of accomplishment of achievement in managing and winning campaigns.  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. This includes experience serving as a public spokesperson and advocate, as well as the ability to analyze and articulate complex issues and to communicate them to a variety of audiences.Skill and comfort in building relationships with diverse audiences, including with companies, coalition partners, community leaders and grassroots organizations, and members of the media.  Experience in energy or pollution analysis a plus. Relevant experience for this position can take many forms, and we strongly encourage applicants from a diversity of backgrounds.  
\n$108,000 - $120,000 a year
Pacific Environment provides compensation commensurate with experience and equitable with others on our team, plus a full benefits package for staff positions. The salary range is carefully considered to account for equity, and the final offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications. \n Physical Requirements The Climate Campaign Director, Corporate work involves remaining in a stationary position and looking at a computer for long stretches of time, communicating with co-workers electronically, and frequent travel (including overnight travel), in-person meetings, or events.
