Te Wero - The Challenge The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver strategic financial guidance to councillors and officers, empowering them to make informed decisions that align with the Council's strategic goals and comply with statutory obligations. You will oversee a high-performing team across various financial functions and lead organisation-wide financial strategies and policies across finance, insurance, and property management, including acquisition and disposal. Key Responsibilities: Provide expert financial guidance to support the organisation's strategic goals. Develop and implement both short and long-term financial strategies that address operational requirements and statutory obligations. Analyse financial and non-financial information to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Ensure adherence to all relevant financial regulations and standards. Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate financial reports. Lead the development of annual budgets and long-term financial plans. Conduct regular audits to maintain transparency and accountability. Collaboration and Leadership Foster a collaborative environment among finance team members and other departments. Lead and mentor finance staff to achieve departmental and organisational objectives. Drive continuous improvement, championing innovative solutions that enhance financial operations. Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure financial planning aligns with overall organisational strategy. Desired Outcomes Achieve financial stability for the organisation. Maintain high standards of financial integrity and compliance. Enhance team performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will possess: Chartered Accountants ANZ membership (or equivalent). A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 10+ years of financial management experience, including strategic financial leadership. Proven experience in leading teams through change and driving organisational transformation. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain diverse relationships. Strong organisational and time management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Adaptability to dynamic and evolving organisational changes.
