Grow and build on the legacy created by our hokopapa Hokotehi Moriori Trust (HMT) is the organisation that represents Moriori people – the descendants of Rongomaiwhenua and Rongomaitere on the islands of Rekohu and Rangihaute (Chatham Islands), in New Zealand and elsewhere.
The Trust operates from Kopinga Marae and has operational support based on mainland NZ. There are 8 trustees, 3 from Rekohu and 5 from New Zealand (South & North Islands). Hokotehi is involved in several sectors of the island's economy including fishing, farming, and tourism. The trust also provides cultural, social, and educational services for members.
Growing and building on the legacy created by our hokopapa, you will lead and empower our dedicated team to deliver on our tikane and principles that uphold the kaha of Hokotehi Moriori Trust. You will be a key intermediary with our hunau, our external stakeholders, and our Trustees, to grow the organisation and represent us locally, regionally, and nationally.
Hawai ko | About you This role requires an expectational person who shares our vision and values and can uphold and promote the cultural integrity of HMT within the Rekohu / Rangihaute communities. You must have an excellent grasp of Imi-Crown Dynamics as well as, Imi and Iwi relations along with effective relationship management skills.
You need to have a deep understanding of our Imi, Hokopapa, and our people. You will be familiar with tikane and Ta Re Moriori and your style will blend authentic collaboration with the ability to make decisions. You will have experience working effectively with a board, driving the board's strategy, and creating positive and respectful governance-management relationships. You will also have a proven track record in managing a business or large organisation, working with or within Trusts and Incorporations. You will be able to demonstrate: A strong knowledge of Moriori hokopapa, tikane and henu An understanding of the Hokotehi settlement, and charter A passion for the Ta Re Moriori Effective internal and external stakeholder management Ability to work closely with the board and implement the strategic priorities and direction set by the board. The CEO plays a critical role in advancing HMT 's mission and objectives to foster cultural preservation and sustainability and ensure effective governance and operational management.
