Chief Executive - Brook SanctuaryCombine your leadership skills with conservation passion.Build the financial strength of the Sanctuary.Promote the Sanctuary as the "must see" destination in Nelson.Brook Sanctuary is a 700-hectare former Nelson water reserve enclosed by a 14.5km predator exclusion fence providing a protected environment for native flora and fauna. There has been an active programme, strongly supported by the eight local iwi, translocating the taonga of tieke, kakariki, powelliphanta snails and tuatara. There are plans for kiwi and kaka to be reintroduced during 2025.The Sanctuary also leases the associated Brook Holiday Reserve with over 115 camping sites. With a team of 13 staff, over 350 volunteers who contribute 25,000 hours keeping the sanctuary predator-free and providing track and facility improvements, and over 2000 paid-up supporters, this is a significant Nelson community venture aiming to re-establish the environment prior to human occupation. This Not-For-Profit (NFP) Trust is presently funded by a combination of operating income, supporter subscriptions, Nelson City Council grants, corporate sponsorship, philanthropic grants, and donations from private individuals. The Board of Trustees is seeking a Chief Executive to lead the Sanctuary through the next phase – securing ongoing funding, further translocations, and continued growth in awareness and visitor numbers.
