The CAO will lead a talented, small team, ensuring that all processes and policies comply with regulatory requirements and environmental standards.The successful candidate will:Actively lead the risk and assurance function, embedding frameworks, policies and processes aligned with the Department's goals and conservation objectivesDrive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of assurance processes to mitigate riskProvide clear advice to the DD-G Public Affairs, Director General and Senior Leadership Team and support interactions with the Risk and Audit CommitteeCollaborate and educate mid/senior leaders to follow and embed good risk management and assurance practisesFoster a culture of integrity, accountability, and transparency within the DepartmentStay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to ensure the Department remains compliant and effective in conservation effortsEnsure DOC operates as an honourable treaty partnerPlease note, we are open to considering any NZ location for this particular opportunity.We are looking for a talented and experienced leader who is passionate about process improvement and will position this function as having a proactive and constructive approach – identifying opportunities for operational improvement and risk mitigation, providing education and supporting the business in its approach to risk and assurance.If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:Relevant experience at a senior/ leadership level in assurance, risk management, internal audit, or compliance.
Experience dealing with a large and distributed operational workforce would be advantageous, but not mandatory.Relevant qualifications in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management or related field.
